JULIAN HARAKE

June 5th - July 18th, 2025

Opening Reception Thursday, June 5th, 5-8PM

  • studio BY APPOINTMENT ONLY is pleased to announce a new show of prints by artist-architect Julian Harake. The exhibition will open with a First Thursday reception on June 5th from 5-8pm and run through July 18th.

The show includes 15 inkjet prints on translucent Japanese gampi paper, each developed through a seamless process of hand drawing, flatbed scanning, digital manipulation, and artificial intelligence. Harake dampens the paper before printing, allowing the ink to spread in a semi-controlled way that is both precise and unpredictable. Light, space, humidity, and gravity all become active agents, shaping the final object as much as the ink itself. The result is a surface that hovers between presence and absence, image and material, hand and machine, control and chance.

In the words of the artist, the works are meant to be “looked at and looked through simultaneously.” He writes, “This experience of looking through, in all its implications, is central to my work—where perception is not just about recognition but about the shifting interplay between what is seen, what is felt, and what is imagined.”
